World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19 every year. The day is dedicated to the art, craft, science and history of photography. Also on this day, the pioneers who inspired others to take up this skill are remembered for their contribution. The importance of World Photography Day is to create awareness, share ideas and encourage individuals in this field.
The origins of the day lie in the invention of the Daguerrotype, a photographic process developed by Frenchmen Lois Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1837. According to reports, on January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences made an announcement regarding the Daguerreotype. After 10 days, the French government got the patent and said that this invention was a gift to the world, without any copyright.
The first durable colour photograph was taken by Thomas Sutton in 1861. On the other hand, the first digital photograph was taken in 1957, almost 20 years before Kodak’s engineer invented the first digital camera.
