Jane Campion smashed records and the glass ceiling as she earned the best director Academy Award for her psychological drama Western "The Power of the Dog". This is her first Oscar win in the category. She also became the first woman to have been nominated twice in the best directing category and the only the third woman after Chloe Zhao's win last year for "Nomadland" and Kathryn Bigelow's win for "Hurt Locker" in 2010. Set in the director's native New Zealand, "The Power of the Dog" is a character study of toxic masculinity and repressed sexuality. Acclaimed Western film "The Power of the Dog" scooped the top prizes for best film and best director for Jane Campion at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) 2022. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest film "Gangubai Kathiawadi", starring Alia Bhatt in the lead, has breached the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. Based on a chapter from writer S Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai', the biographical drama features Bhatt in the title role of one of the most powerful, loved and respected madams from Mumbai's Kamathipura neighbourhood during the 1960s. Released on February 25, the film opened to positive response from the audience and critics. The filmmaker's banner Bhansali Productions shared the box office collections of the film on their Twitter handle. "She reigns over our hearts & the box office!
