Another churn in IndiGo's management cockpit amid turbulent times

More than three months ago, the country's largest airline IndiGo's successful co-founders Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal made headlines. On February 4, the announcement came that Bhatia will take charge as the airline's Managing Director and on February 18, amid the not-so-cosy relations between the two co-founders, it was announced that Gangwal has stepped down from its board. Bhatia took over as the Managing Director on February 4 and since then, there have been quite a few churns in the top deck. IndiGo -- a low-cost carrier which accounts for more than half of the country's domestic traffic -- has announced the appointment of new Chairman, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since March. In March, IndiGo's market share stood at 54.8 per cent, as per official data. IndiGo, which has nearly 300 planes in its fleet, is also bracing for more competition with Akasa expected to be operational in the coming months while Jet Airways likely to restart ...

Transported 81,437 kg of Covid vaccines between Jan 12 and Apr 12: IndiGo

IndiGo airline transported a total of 81,437 kg of COVID-19 vaccines between January 12 and April 12, the budget carrier said in a statement on Friday. It noted that the airline had a leading market share of 36.56 per cent in COVID-19 vaccine transportation during this period. "IndiGo operated these flights by adhering to all the requisite precautionary measures," the statement said. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had in early January issued guidelines for airlines for transportation of COVID-19 vaccine packed in dry ice. Ronojoy Dutta, chief executive officer of IndiGo, said, "We are pleased to be the leader in COVID vaccine transportation in the country by moving the highest share of these vaccines, at 36.5% in the last three months, from key COVID vaccine manufacturing points - Pune, Hyderabad & Mumbai.

BOC Aviation, IndiGo sign purchase-leaseback pact for eight A320Neo planes

BOC Aviation Limited has signed purchase-and-leaseback agreements with InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo) for eight new Airbus A320NEO aircraft. "The addition of these eight A320NEO aircraft demonstrates our confidence in the future growth of the aviation market in India," said Riyaz Peermohamed, Chief Aircraft Acquisition & Financing Officer, IndiGo. The aircraft will be powered by CFM Leap engines and are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2021, the Singapore-based aircraft leasing company said in a release on Monday. "This incremental capital expenditure also reflects our disciplined investment strategy throughout the cycle, focused on building a portfolio of the latest technology aircraft," said Robert Martin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, BOC Aviation. He further noted that "we are delighted to partner once again with IndiGo, India's largest passenger airline, as we continue to support our airline customers to finance their aircraft deliveries.
