Over 258,000 people across 16 districts affected by floods in Assam

As many as 732 villages in 16 districts have been affected in Assam due to floods following heavy rainfall, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Sunday in its flood report."As many as 2,58,191 persons have been affected in 16 districts of Assam due to flood in the state. A total of 91 relief camps and relief distribution centres have been set up for the flood victims in the state in which 6,218 victims are taking shelter.According to the flood report of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Circle Office, Fire and Emergency Services (F & ES), and local administration are involved in the rescue operations. Ten boats have been deployed for rescuing people.The State has been suffering from flood situations for the past several weeks.

Flood waters recede further in Assam; over 241,000 affected in 4 districts

Flood waters in Assam further receded on Friday and remained in four districts affecting a population of over 2.41 lakh, though the deluge claimed one more life, a government bulletin said here. With the death of one person in Morigaon district, the total number of people who lost their lives in flood-related incidents this year rose to 121, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in the bulletin. It said that 2,41,825 people of 379 villages in four districts are now affected, while the number of people hit by the calamity on Thursday was 2.70 lakh in seven districts. Flood waters receded from three districts since Thursday and the districts of Goalpara, Morigaon, Hojai and Nagaon remained submerged now. ASDMA said that 22,802 hectare of crop areas are under water now. Assam flood situation improves marginally; widespread rains in Odisha

The flood situation in Assam improved marginally on Thursday as river water levels receded while a fresh low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal, triggering widespread rainfall in Odisha. The Meteorological (MeT) office said heavy rainfall is likely to lash many parts of Odisha till October 6. The southwest monsoon withdrew from Rajasthan with eight per cent more rainfall than normal, the MeT Department. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said dry weather is very likely over most parts of the northwest India during the next five days. In Assam, over 2.70 lakh people were affected due to floods in seven districts on Thursday. At present, 426 villages are underwater and over 25,307 hectare of crop areas have been damaged in the state, a bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said. Assam flood situation worsens; 318,000 people affected in 13 districts

The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Monday with nearly 3.18 lakh people suffering due to the deluge in 13 districts, an official bulletin said. One person drowned in Raha area in Nagaon district, the daily flood report issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said. The fresh fatality has taken the number of deaths in flood-related incidents in the state this year to 119, it said. Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and West Karbi Anglong districts have been affected by the deluge. Nagaon is the worst-hit district with 1.99 lakh affected people, followed by Morigaon (36,400) and Kamrup (25,100), the report said. The number of people affected by the deluge was 2.25 lakh till Sunday, it said. As many as 389 villages are submerged and 13,463 hectares of crops have been damaged across Assam, the report said. Three Assam districts still flood-hit; 11,900 people remain affected

Three districts of Assam - Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Baksa are still inundated and 11,900 people are reeling under the impact of the flood on Monday, an official bulletin said here. Lakhimpur is the worst-hit with 9,500 people affected by the deluge, while the number of victims in Dhemaji and Baksa is 2,100 and 300 respectively, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in the bulletin. The total number of people losing their lives in this year's flood and landslide stands at 138 across the state. While 112 people died in flood-related incidents, 26 were killed in landslides. At present, 28 villages and 1,535 hectare of crop areas are under water in the three flood-hit districts, ASDMA said. More than 11,800 people of 31 districts in those three districts were affected by the deluge on Sunday.
