Mevani was taken to Kokrajhar by road, over 220 km from Guwahati, as the case under which he was arrested was registered there
In a statement, K C Venugopal said: "The unlawful & unconstitutional arrest of Jignesh Mevani at midnight by Assam Police is the latest proof of authoritarianism under BJP"
Mevani is independent MLA from Vadgam seat in Banaskantha. He recently joined Congress
