Rahul Gandhi to interact with college students in poll-bound Assam

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will interact with college students and meet tea estate workers as part of his poll campaign in Assam on Friday, the party said. Gandhi will be on a day-long tour to the poll-bound state where the Congress is seeking to wrest back power from the BJP. The former Congress chief will be interacting with college students in Lahoal in Dibrugarh on Friday morning and then attend the tea estate workers rally in Dinjoy in Panitola block of Dibrugarh later, the party said. He will also address a public meeting in Town Field in Doom Dooma in Tinsukia district of Assam, it said. This is the second time Gandhi would be campaigning in Assam. Earlier, his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had also campaigned for the party in the state and met tea estate workers. Assembly elections in Assam are slated in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6, to elect the 126 member house. The results will be out on May 2.

Congress releases list of remaining four candidates for Tamil Nadu polls

The Congress on Tuesday released the second list of four candidates for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.According to the list, JG Prince has been fielded from Colachel, from where he is the sitting MLA currently.Another party MLA S. Vijayadharani will contest from the Vilavancode constituency.Tamil Nadu Youth Congress President JMH Hassan will contest the polls from the Velachery constituency. S Rajakumar has been fielded from Mayiladuthurai.Congress had released the first list of 21 candidates for the Tamil Nadu polls on March 14.The 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 6 and the counting of votes will be done on May 2.Tamil Nadu Congress chief KS Alagiri had said that the party has reached a seat-sharing pact with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and will contest 25 assembly seats in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.

Congress announces list of 21 candidates for Assam Assembly polls

The Congress on Tuesday came out with lists of candidates for elections for the upcoming state polls, including 21 for the Assam Assembly elections. With this, the Congress has announced candidates for 92 seats in Assam. The party also came out with separate lists of candidates for polls in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry. For Assam, the party announced a list of 21 candidates, for Kerala six candidates, for Puducherry 14 candidates, and for Tamil Nadu, it named four candidates. Voting for five assembly elections will begin on March 27, with West Bengal having the maximum eight phases continuing till April 29, while counting of votes for the four states and one union territory will be done on May 2, the Election Commission said on Friday. The Assam assembly polls will be conducted in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6, while polling for the Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assembly elections will take place in a single phase on April 6.
