Delhi govt approves salary hike recommended by Centre for MLAs

Delhi MLAs will now get Rs 90,000 per month as salary and allowances with the Arvind Kejriwal government approving a hike cap recommended by the Centre on Tuesday. Earlier, each MLA was getting Rs 53,000, including Rs 12,000 as salary and the remaining amount as allowances, the government said in a statement. With this hike, each legislator will get Rs 30,000 as salary and allowances totalling Rs 60,000, it said. Despite the hike, Delhi MLAs will continue to be among the lowest-paid legislators in the country, it claimed. The salary of Delhi's MLAs hasn't increased in 10 years and the Kejriwal government had requested the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that their salary and allowances be at par with MLAs of other states, the statement said.

Yamuna can't become fit for bathing in absence of e-flow: Delhi govt

The Yamuna cannot become fit for bathing in the absence of a minimum environment flow in the river, the Delhi government has said in a report submitted in the Union Jal Shakti Ministry. It also said of the 35 sewage treatment plants in Delhi, 22 do not meet the wastewater standards prescribed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). Of the 13 Common Effluent Treatment Plants in industrial areas across Delhi, only six comply with the DPCC standards for wastewater. "Minimum environmental flow for the dilution of the polluted water in the Yamuna in Delhi is required to meet the desired water quality levels in the river for bathing purpose i.e. BOD<3 mg/l and DO>5 mg/l," the report read. 5.5 mn applications for availing Delhi's doorstep delivery scheme till June

The Delhi government has received around 55 lakh applications for availing doorstep delivery of different services till June this year, officials said on Saturday. They, however, said the data for the months between January and May, 2021 was not available due to the coronavirus pandemic. Officials said the highest 14,32,480 applications were received for doorstep delivery of caste certificates. This was followed by 13.32 lakh applications for delivery of income certificates, they said. "We have received nearly 55.10 lakh applications from people for availing doorstep delivery of government services such as certificates of income, caste, residence, labourer registration among others. "Such encouraging figures were achieved despite doorstep delivery of services was shut for over five month due to the lockdown last year," an official said.
