Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka leading states in EV sales: Govt

Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Karnataka have emerged as top three states in terms of registration of electric vehicles in India, the government said on Wednesday. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that 870,141 electric vehicles have been registered in India. Uttar Pradesh (255,700) has the highest registered electric vehicles, followed by Delhi (125,347) and Karnataka (72,544) come in that order. The fourth and fifth spots are grabbed by Bihar (58,014) and Maharashtra ( 52,506). Gadkari said the Ministry of Heavy Industries formulated a scheme namely Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme in 2015 to promote adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country with an aim to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. HC asks Delhi govt to inspect liquor shop site opened in residential area

The Delhi High Court Tuesday directed the Delhi government to conduct a fresh inspection of a site in the Tri Nagar area where residents have been seeking shifting of a liquor shop opened recently. Justice Rekha Palli, who issued notice and sought response from the Delhi government and Department of Excise, was assured by the counsel for the residents that since they have approached the court, they will immediately call off dharna' at the spot. Keeping in view the nature of grievance raised in the petition, respondents 1 and 2 (Delhi government and Department of Excise) are directed to carry out fresh inspection of the site and file a report, the court said and listed the plea for further hearing on December 13. Delhi government and Department of Excise were represented through standing counsel Santosh Kumar Tripathi and lawyer Arun Panwar. Delhi reports first Omicron case, fully vax man with travel history to SA

A 37-year-old fully vaccinated man who arrived in Delhi from Tanzania has tested positive for Omicron, making it the first case of the new COVID-19 variant in the national capital. The patient, a resident of Ranchi, had travelled from Tanzania to Doha and from there to Delhi on a Qatar Airways flight on December 2. He stayed in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a week, officials told PTI. The person is fully vaccinated and is currently admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital with mild symptoms, an official said. He had to take a connecting flight to Ranchi, where he lives with his family. Since he gave his sample at the IGI Airport which came out positive, we admitted him to the Lok Nayak Hospital as per the procedure, the official said. Authorities are trying to locate and isolate 10 people who occupied the seats close to this passenger on the flight. Delhi air pollution: Light rains in national capital bring slight relief

The air quality in the national capital improved marginally on Friday due to light rains in the city and adjoining areas. Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index read 346. It was 429 on Thursday. Neighbouring Faridabad (292), Ghaziabad (342), Greater Noida (262), Gurgaon (296) and Noida (312) also got a slight relief from air pollution. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe". Mahesh Palawat, vice president (Meteorology and Climate Change), Skymet Weather said light rains continued throughout the day on Thursday in many parts of northwest India, especially east Punjab, Haryana, west and central Uttar Pradesh.
