Falling margins following the roll out of Goods and Services Tax has disrupted the distribution model of consumer products companies with their distributors asking for higher commission for on-selling their products.Both Britannia Industries Ltd and Tata Tea have stopped their supply to distributors in Kerala after the latter asked for higher margins, says Distributors in Kerala.According to industry representatives, both these companies have sales of around Rs 500 crore and Rs 200 crore in Kerala respectively every month.Shyam Prasad Menon, president, Federation of South India Distributors Association and Vice President for the All India Federation of Distributors Association confirmed the development and said that over the last 3-5 years, cost of doing business rose by nearly 25-50 per cent.An email sent to Britannia and Tata Tea was not responded till the time of going to press.Dhairyashil Patil, president of All India Consumer Products Distributors' Federation which represents ...
