Heavy rains lash Saurashtra; Guj monsoon deficit contracts 10% in one week

Several parts of Gujarat's Saurashtra region on Wednesday received very heavy rainfall with more showers expected in the next four days, officials said. The fresh spell of downpour that started a few days ago will help reduce the rainfall deficiency of Gujarat, they said . The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall till Friday with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts of the state with isolated extremely heavy showers in some districts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat regions during the next four days. As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), parts of Gir Somnath, Amreli, Rajkot and Bhavnagar districts received rainfall of over 100 mm in 12 hours till Wednesday evening. Sutrapada and Babra talukas of Gir Somnath and Amreli districts received 138 and 130 mm rainfall, respectively, it said. As many as 162 out of 251 talukas of Gujarat witnessed wet spell on Wednesday. Gujarat reports 19 coronavirus cases today; over 600,000 vaccinated

Gujarat on Monday reported 19 COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 8,25,509, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,082, an official said. The discharge of 13 people increased the recovery count to 8,15,275, leaving the state with 152 active cases, including seven critical patients, he said. Ahmedabad led with nine cases, followed by three each in Surat and Vadodara, he said. An official release said 6,01,254 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday, raising the total number of doses administered so far in the state to 4,97,04,707. Neighbouring Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu's tally and recovery count stood unchanged at 10,637 and 10,631, respectively, on Monday, leaving the Union Territory, which has seen four deaths so far, with two active cases. Gujarat's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 8,25,509, new cases 19, death toll 10,082, discharged 8,15,275, active cases 152, people tested so far - figures not released.

Gujarat reported 12 COVID-19 cases on Monday, including three in Ahmedabad, taking the state's tally to 8,25,410, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,081, an official said. The discharge of 13 people from hospitals took the recovery count to 8,15,179, leaving the state with 150 active cases, including four critical patients, he said. The COVID-19 vaccination drive remained suspended on the second day on Monday for Janmashtami festivities, a release said, adding that 4,54,69,490 doses had been administered in the state so far. The tally and recovery count in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu remained unchanged at 10,635 and 10,625 respectively, leaving the Union Territory, which has seen four deaths so far, with six active cases. Gujarat reports 17 fresh coronavirus cases, 1 death, 17 recoveries

Gujarat's coronavirus tally rose to 8,25,347 on Wednesday with the addition of 17 new cases, while one more patient succumbed to the infection, the state health department said. With one more COVID-19 death - reported from Jamnagar district - the statewide toll rose to 10,080, the department said. A total of 17 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, pushing the number of recovered cases to 8,15,108, said the department in a release. The state's COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 98.76 per cent. Gujarat now has 159 active cases, out of which the condition of five patients is critical, the release said. The number of people who have been administered COVID-19 vaccines in the state rose to 4,39,78,413, of which 3,46,880 beneficiaries were inoculated on Wednesday, the department said. District-wise, Surat reported the highest number of six new cases, followed by Dahod with five, Ahmedabad and Vadodara two cases, and Gandhinagar and Kutch one each, it said. The .
