The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices settled 1.5 per cent and 1.7 per cent higher, respectively

Sectorally, the Nifty IT index advanced 2 per cent while the Nifty Auto index tumbled 1.5 per cent

Tech Mahindra, TCS, Nestle and Infosys were the top Sensex gainers and IndusInd Bank, NTPC, Airtel and L&T were the top losers
The Nifty Metal index skidded 2.5 per cent
BSE barometer Sensex hit a new high of 55,681 in trade and settled at 55,583, up 145 points or 0.26 per cent
The benchmark indices ended a historic week for the market with a bang as Sensex vaulted past 55,000 mark for the first time today
On the contrary, broader indices underperformed and ended mildly lower

The Nifty IT index jumped 3 per cent and ended around record high levels of 32,245.
After gyrating 591 points in intra-day, the BSE Sensex closed 29 points or 0.05 per cent down at 54,526
The BSE SmallCap index, which was down over 3 per cent at one point during the day, ended just 0.83 per cent lower.
In a see-saw trade, the benchmarks after hitting fresh peaks in intra-day trade slipped into the red on profit booking but soon recovered as investors lapped up shares, again taking the indices higher
The BSE Sensex closed at 54,555 levels, up 152 points or 0.28 per cent. The Nifty50 index shut shop at 16,280 levels, up 22 points or 0.13 per cent
Overall, the BSE Sensex added 125 points or 0.23 per cent to end at 54,403. Meanwhile, Nifty50 ended the day at 16,258, down 20 points or 0.12 per cent
