The Nifty Auto, Metal, and Pharma indices settled over 1 per cent lower each
BSE Sensex settled tad below the 51,350-mark, at 51,349 levels today, up 617 points or 1.22 per cent, aided by buying in M&M (up 7.4 per cent), Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, Tech M, and Bharti Airtel
Weightage-wise, Infosys (up 3 per cent), Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, M&M, and TCS contributed around 408-points towards overall gains on the index
BSE Sensex surpassed the 51,000-mark on the BSE for the first time and hit a fresh record high of 51,073
The broader markets, however, came under selling pressure. The S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices ended 0.93 per cent and 0.28 per cent lower, respectively
The broader Nifty50, on the other hand, continued its march towards the crucial 15,000-mark and ended at a new closing high of 14,896 levels, up 106 points or 0.7 per cent
Robust buying in shares of ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, and M&M helped the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex scale fresh lifetime peak of 50,687.51 level
BSE barometer, however, witnessed mild profit-booking at higher levels but managed to end the day at a fresh closing peak of 50,256, up 458 points
The Nifty Pharma index edged up 3 per cent, followed by gains in the Nifty PSB index (up 2.3 per cent), and the Nifty Pruvate Bank index (up 2 per cent)
Among the headline indices, the S&P BSE Sensex zoomed 1,197 points, or 2.46 per cent, to settle the day at a fresh record closing peak of 49,798 levels
The Sensex index reclaimed the 50,000 level in intra-day deals and hit a high of 50,154
Overall, the market capitalization of the BSE-listed companies increased by Rs 6.78 trillion to Rs 192.9 trillion on Monday
