Odisha logs 10,856 new Covid-19 cases, Omicron tally mounts to 202

Odisha's COVID-19 caseload mounted to 11,22,735 on Saturday with 10,856 fresh infections, while two more fatalities pushed the death toll to 8,478, the Health Department said in a bulletin. The state also reported 32 new Omicron cases taking the tally of the new strain of coronavirus in Odisha to 202, a health department official said. The daily test positivity rate jumped to 14.49 per cent from 13.57 per cent the previous day, when 10,273 coronavirus cases were reported, the bulletin said. Khurda district, where the state capital Bhubaneswar is located, reported over a quarter of the new cases at 3,087, followed by 1,943 in Sundargarh, 909 in Cuttack, and 500 in Sambalpur. As many as 1,021 children tested positive for the infection out of the 74,936 samples tested in the past 24 hours, the bulletin said. Odisha logs 3,679 fresh coronavirus cases, highest since June 18

Odisha registered 3,679 fresh COVID-19 cases, a 36-per cent rise over the previous day and the biggest single-day spike in more than six months, the Health Department said on Saturday. The coastal state's coronavirus tally stood at 10.66 lakh. The daily test positivity rate rose to 5.15 per cent from 3.92 per cent on Friday., it said, adding, the new infections include 384 children. The death toll stood at 8,468 as no fresh fatality was reported in the past 24 hours. Fifty-three other Covid patients have died due to comorbidities so far, officials said. Khurda district reported one-third of the fresh cases with 1,223 infections, followed by 582 in Sundargarh, 372 in Sambalpur, 310 in Cuttack, 134 in Jharsuguda and 100 in Puri, the department said in a bulletin. Single-day cases in the state jumped more than 12-fold from 298 infections on January 1 and nearly doubled in just two days from 1,897 on Thursday. Odisha CM disburses Rs 3,000 each to 3.1 mn families for house repair

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday disbursed financial assistance of Rs 3,000 each to the beneficiaries of the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) towards repair of their houses. Total assistance of Rs 1,444 crore was directly credited to the bank accounts of 31 lakh families, Patnaik said. The state government will soon provide Rs 5,000 each to the 12.25 lakh households who have been denied a pucca house under the Pradham Mantri Aawas Yojana (Gramin), the chief minister said. Bank account details are being collected and they will be given Rs 5,000 each to repair their houses, he said. The state government is committed to its pledge taken in 2014 to convert all kutcha houses to pucca houses, Patnaik said. Though houses in 14 districts were damaged in cyclone Fani in 2019, the affected people are yet to get any assistance under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) till date, he said.
