At least 46 Afghan soldiers cross over to Pakistan to seek refuge

At least 46 Afghan soldiers crossed over and took refuge in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province after losing control of a border post to the Taliban militants along the international border, according to media reports on Monday. The Pakistan Army said the incident occurred late on Sunday night in Arundu sector in the country's Chitral district when an Afghan National Army (ANA) local Commander requested the Pakistan Army for refuge and safe passage. According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 46 soldiers, including five officers, belong to the ANA and Border Police as they were unable to hold their military posts along Pak-Afghan International Border due to the evolving security situation in Afghanistan. The Pakistan Army contacted the Afghan authorities for information and necessary formalities. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was a potential target of the Israeli-made Pegasus spyware programme by clients of the NSO Group cyberespionage firm, media reports claimed here on Monday. The collaborative efforts by an international media consortium on an investigation into a data leak showed that at least one number once used by Prime Minister Khan was on the list of people whose phones were targeted, Dawn newspaper reported. It was not clear if Prime Minister Khan's phone was actually hacked, it added. It was also not clear how many other people from Pakistan were on the list, which according to The Washington Post had more than hundred phone numbers from Pakistan. The report was published by some prominent international publications including The Washington Post, The Guardian and Le Monde, as media partners to an investigation conducted by Paris-based media non-profit organisation Forbidden Stories and rights group Amnesty International into a leaked list of more than 50,000

After petrol, now the price of food items including sugar, wheat flour has been increased in Pakistan, amid its worsening economic situation.The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Friday approved an increase in rates of sugar, wheat flour and ghee (butter) at the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) of Pakistan, reported The News International.The price of sugar was jacked up from Rs 68 per kg to Rs 85 per kg, ghee (butter) from Rs 170 to Rs 260 per kg and wheat flour from Rs 850 per bag to Rs 950 per bag at the USC owing to the increasing gap between the subsidised prices offered by the Utility Stores Corporation and the prevailing market prices.The committee approved revision in the prices of three essential commodities to rationalise provision of subsidies by the USC.The News International further reported that the minister for finance and revenue Shaukat Tarin chaired the committee meeting.
