Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Wednesday reported a 17 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicle sales at 15,973 units in August as compared to the same month last year. The company had sold 13,651 units in August 2020, M&M said in a statement. In the commercial vehicles segment, the company sold 11,432 vehicles in the domestic market last month, as against 15,606 units in the same month last year, a drop of 27 per cent. Exports increased to 3,180 units last month as against 1,169 units in the year-ago month. "Demand across our product portfolio continues to remain strong with Thar, XUV 300 and our recently launched Bolero Neo and our Bolero Pik-up range clocking in impressive booking numbers. Passenger vehicle wholesales in India increased by 45 per cent to 2,64,442 units in July against 1,82,779 units in the same month last year, auto industry body SIAM said on Thursday. According to the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), two-wheeler dispatches from the OEMs to dealerships declined by 2 per cent to 12,53,937 units in July, compared to 12,81,354 units in the year-ago period. Motorcycle sales were at 8,37,096 units last month as against 8,88,520 units in July 2020, down 6 per cent. Scooter sales increased 10 per cent to 3,66,292 units from 3,34,288 units. Similarly, three-wheeler sales surged 41 per cent to 17,888 units last month as against 12,728 units a year ago. The total sales across categories, excluding commercial vehicles, stood at 15,36,269 units compared to 14,76,861 units in July last year.
Tata Motors on Monday said it has increased prices of its passenger vehicles by 0.8 per cent with effect from August 3. The Mumbai-based auto major, which sells models like Nexon and Harrier, will increase prices of its passenger vehicles on an average of 0.8 per cent depending on the variant and model, Tata Motors said in a statement. The company noted that it would offer protection from the price increase to vehicles that will be retailed on or before August 31. For the well-being of its business and supporting ecosystem, the company had recently announced that it has set in motion a comprehensive Business Agility Plan' to protect and serve the interests of its customers, dealers and suppliers. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Thursday said it has sold a total of 40,403 units in March. The company had dispatched 6,679 units in March 2020 amid sales disruptions due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Mumbai-based automaker sold 16,700 passenger vehicles last month in the domestic market. It had dispatched 3,383 units in March 2020. It sold 21,577 commercial vehicles in the domestic market last month. The company had dispatched just 2,742 units in March 2020 due to coronavirus-led lockdown. Passenger vehicle wholesales in February last year stood at 2,38,622 units. Scooter sales were also up 10.9 per cent at 4,64,744 units from 4,22,168 units a year ago.
