Oppn disrupts Rajya Sabha proceedings over suspension of MPs

Rajya Sabha did not transact any significant business for the second consecutive day as opposition parties continued their protest on Tuesday demanding the revocation of suspension of 12 MPs. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill 2021 and The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill 2020 amid the din. In all, the House witnessed two adjournments before the final one for the day at around 3.12 PM. As the House resumed proceedings at 3 PM, Deputy Chairman Harivansh asked Mandaviya to introduce the bills. Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 PM after Oppn uproar over MPs' suspensions

Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned twice during the pre-lunch period on Monday after Opposition members created uproar in the house over the suspension of some of their colleagues. The house was first adjourned soon after it met and then again a few minutes after the house met at 12 for the Question Hour. Opposition members belonging to the Trinamool Congress, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and the Left trooped into the Well of the House, raising slogans against the government. The Opposition members carrying placards demanded the revocation of the suspension of 12 members while raising slogans. Deputy chairman Harivansh appealed to the protesting members to go back to their seats and allow the Question Hour to be taken up. Oppn leaders hold protest in Parliament complex over suspension of RS MPs

Leaders of several opposition parties on Monday staged a protest in Parliament complex here in support of the suspended MPs of the Rajya Sabha. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and other Opposition MPs raised slogans in front of Gandhi statue in Parliament complex and demanded that the suspension of the MPs be revoked. The 12 opposition MPs -- six from the Congress, two each from the Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena, and one each from the CPI and CPI(M) -- were suspended from the Rajya Sabha last Monday for the entire Winter Session of Parliament for their "unruly" conduct in the previous session in August. The Opposition has termed the suspension as "undemocratic and in violation of all the Rules of Procedure" of the Upper House. The 12 suspended MPs have been sitting in protest against their suspension, which they claim is against the rules.
