The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is leading with 281 wards in town panchayats while the party is ahead on 98 wards in municipalities.In town panchayats, All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is leading at 30 wards, indicating that it is a clean sweep for the DMK, according to data from the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) website.A DMK transgender candidate Ganga has won from ward 37 of Vellore Municipal Corporation (VMC).In VMC, DMK has won 14 wards, AIADMK and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) 4 wards each, Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK) 1 and independent candidates have won three wards.The urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu were held on Saturday for 12,607 posts in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, and 490 town panchayats.There are 57,778 candidates contesting for 12,607 posts.

Covid-19 pandemic: Tamil Nadu reports 1,146 fresh cases and 8 deaths

Tamil Nadu recorded 1,146 fresh coronavirus cases -- a marginal decline from 1,252 a day ago -- and six deaths on Friday, taking the count to 34,42,929 and the toll to 37,970. With 4,229 COVID-19 patients getting discharged after treatment today, the cumulative recoveries have increased to 33,84,278, while the total active cases, including isolation, as of today further declined to 20,681 from 23,772 on Thursday. Like many among the 38 districts in the state, Chennai and Coimbatore too continued to witness a marginal decline to 262 and 188 cases, respectively, from 285 and 214 fresh infections, respectively, on Thursday while Erode registered 64 cases as against 69 on the previous day. About 21 districts saw new infections below 50 today while 13 other districts recorded positive cases in single digit with Mayiladuthurai and Perambalur recording one case each. Covid-19 pandemic: Tamil Nadu records 1,310 new cases, 10 deaths

Tamil Nadu registered 1,310 new coronavirus cases and 10 deaths on Wednesday. These took the total count to 34,40,531 and the toll of fatalities to 37,956 so far. The cumulative recoveries, including 5,374 COVID-19 patients getting discharged after treatment today, increased to 33,75,281. The total active cases, including isolation, as of today, decreased to 27,294 from 31,368 on Tuesday, according to a bulletin. A person who returned from UAE and another from West Bengal added to the total of 1,310 fresh infections today. The fresh cases peaked to 36,184 on May 21, the highest leading to the State government imposing stringent restrictions to contain the contagion. The numbers started declining from this month and the State saw 7,524 cases on February 5. The infections fell to 3,971 on February 9, further to 1,634 on February 14, to 1,325 on February 15 and to 1,310 today. Chennai and Coimbatore, among the 38 districts in the State, saw cases fall. Chengalpattu recorded 110 cases
