Strength of Chinese, Russian warships poses a challenge to US navy

US navy will be tasked with challenges posed by both Russia and China's navy in the near future.China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) already numbers 355 ships of war, making it the world's largest in terms of brute numbers of hulls. And these figures are only trending upward. The PLA may deploy as many as 460 ships by 2030, judging from the latest estimates., according to Hill.Meanwhile, the US Navy trails behind China's navy with just 295 hulls displacing water. And while the uniformed navy leadership envisions building up to a fleet numbering between 398 and 512 vessels, a hefty share of those totals between 77 and 140 hulls will be made up of unmanned surface and subsurface craft. Moreover, the PLA Navy remains mostly concentrated in China's environs while US Navy scatters task forces about the globe performing sundry errands as a part of it's maritime strategy.Only a fraction of American sea power calls the Western Pacific home. Worse still, sea power is no longer all .

1st ODI match between US, Ireland called off after Umpire Covid positive

USA Cricket says the first one-day cricket international between the Americans and Ireland scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled due a positive COVID-19 case among the umpiring team. "USA Cricket and Cricket Ireland will continue to work closely together, alongside the ICC, to ensure the remainder of the series can continue, if safe to do so," the U.S. statement said Friday. It said one umpire tested positive for COVID-19, but the other three scheduled to officiate were deemed close contacts, so none of the crew would be available for the match. The second one-day match is scheduled for Tuesday and the third next Thursday, both also in Ft. Lauderdale. The teams split a two-match Twenty20 series, with the U.S. upsetting Ireland in the first match but Ireland winning the second.

Many US churches cancel in-person Christmas services as Covid cases surge

Amid the surge of coronavirus cases across the U.S., numerous churches have cancelled in-person Christmas services, disappointing pastors and churchgoers who consider them an annual highlight. Other churches planned outdoor services or proposed a hybrid of online and in-person worship, often imposing tight restrictions for those in attendance. These included requirements to wear masks and show proof of COVID-19 vaccinations. Among the prominent churches cancelling some or all of their in-person Christmas services were Washington National Cathedral in the nation's capital; St. John the Divine, the cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of New York; and the historic Old South Church in Boston. The Rev. Nancy Taylor, senior minister of Old South, said the church affiliated with the United Church of Christ still hoped to hold in-person Christmas Day services on Saturday, but was shifting its popular Christmas Eve service to online-only. China not likely to fulfil its trade commitments to US as year ends

US-China worsening relations will deteriorate further if Beijing misses its obligations under a nearly expired trade agreement. The Economic and Trade Agreement signed by the two superpowers in January 2020 is set to end on December 31 this year. Trade observers say China has not complied with a clause that obligates it to buy imports of manufactured goods, farm products, energy products, and certain services from the U.S. at a total of $200 billion more than the 2017 total. China purchased $186 billion in goods and services in 2017 before the trade war, according to U.S. government figures.Matthew Goodman, senior vice president for economics with the Washington-based Center for Strategic & International Studies said China has had trouble complying because of delays in Chinese aircraft orders from the US and pandemic-related setbacks."I do think that the Biden administration is going to follow through on this agreement and hold China to account," Goodman said"I don't see any ...
