Central and northern India may experience heat wave: IMD

Most of the central and northern part of India is likely to witness heat wave in the coming days, with the maximum temperature expected to hover at 45-degree Celsius."Heat wave conditions likely in some parts of Vidarbha and in isolated pockets over East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat state, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada," the India Meteorological Department stated in its advisory on Thursday.Weather experts believe that these heat waves are likely to end at the end of May."Previous heat waves in the northern part of India were broken by thunderstorms, which also brought winds and flash flooding, this heat wave is expected to last into May," said Accuweather, a private weather forecasting agency.Today, the minimum and maximum temperatures of the national capital will be around 28 degree Celsius and 42-degree Celsius with humidity oscillating between 30 per cent to 39 per cent.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. At 43 deg C, Delhi records hottest day of season

The national capital Wednesday recorded the hottest day of the season so far, with the temperature soaring to sweltering 43 degrees in some parts of the city. The Safdarjung Observatory, data of which is considered the official figure for the city, registered a maximum of 41.7 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average. The minimum temperature settled at 27.1 degrees, also four notches above normal, said a Meteorological (MeT) Department official. The Palam Observatory registered a high of 43 degrees Celsius, while areas under Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 41.9, 42 and 42.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity levels oscillated between 56 and 21 per cent. The MeT office has forecast partly cloudy skies for Thursday, heat wave at isolated pockets and thunderstorm and dust storm in some areas towards evening. IMD issues thunderstorm, lightning warning for Delhi tomorrow

The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a warning that Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurguram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad are likely to witness thunderstorm and lightning on Thursday (April 25).Besides Delhi and NCR region, Rajasthan which has been witnessing dry weather from the past few days is also likely to reel under heat wave conditions in the next 24 hours.Another Northern state, Himachal Pradesh will also receive rain showers and thundershower activities during this period, while rain in Uttarakhand will be isolated.According to the weather experts, the Western disturbance will keep giving weather activities over all the three hilly states until April 25. Delhi reels under scorching heat

The national capital reeled under scorching heat on Tuesday, with the mercury crossing the 40 degree-mark for the first time this season. The Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, registered a maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, said a Meteorological (MeT) Department official. The Palam observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees, while areas under Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 42.5, 40.8, 42.7 and 41 degrees Celsius respectively. Light rains bring mercury down in Delhi

It was a pleasant day in the national capital as light rains in some parts of the city brought the mercury down. The maximum temperature settled at 29.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.0 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal, a Met department official said. The humidity oscillated between 82 and 54 per cent. The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, received 1 mm rains till 8.30 am after which it recorded traces of rainfall till 5.30 pm. Areas under Palam, Lodhi, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 1.8, 1.4, 0.2 and 2.5 mm rains respectively till 8.30 AM, the official said. Palam, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 0.8, 0.8 and 0.2 mm rainfall respectively between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Lodhi Road recorded traces of rainfall during the same period, the official said. Temperature further dips in HP after rains

Temperatures decreased by several notches in Himachal Pradesh after rains on the second consecutive day Wednesday, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said. Several parts of the state, including Dalhousie 42 mm, Kangra 42 mm, Jawali 26 mm, Manali 17 mm, Kufri 16 mm and Shimla 13 mm, witnessed light to moderate rains, it said. As a result, the minimum temperatures decreased by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, whereas the maximum temperatures decreased by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una at 25.4 degrees Celsius, it said, adding that the lowest temperature was recorded in tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong at 1.8 degrees Celsius.
