Fresh snowfall, rain in Kashmir Valley
The Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall and rains overnight, leading to an increase in the minimum temperature, even as the Meteorological department has forecast moderate precipitation across the state for the next two days. Fresh snowfall was recorded in Gulmarg and Pahalgam tourist resorts as well as in Kupwara, an official of the Met office here said. He said while Gulmarg , the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, received 30 cm snow during the night, Pahalgam, which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, recorded 3 cm snow. Kupwara in north Kashmir received three inches of fresh snow, he added. The official said there are reports of fresh snowfall in a few other areas in the higher reaches of the Valley. Min temps rise across Punjab, Haryana
Minimum temperatures on Wednesday hovered above normal limits at most places in Punjab and Haryana, meteorological department officials said here. Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a low of 12 degrees Celsius, they said. Gurdaspur in Punjab experienced a cold night at 6.8 degrees Celsius followed by 8.2 degrees Celsius in Adampur, 8.6 degrees Celsius in Amritsar, 8.8 degrees Celsius in Ludhiana and 9.2 degrees Celsius in Bathinda. Halwara recorded 9.3 degrees Celsius, Faridkot 9.5 degrees degrees Celsius, and Pathankot and Patiala recorded lows of 9.8 degrees Celsius each, the department said. In Haryana, the minimum temperature in Karnal settled at a low of 8.4 degrees Celsius followed by 10.4 degrees Celsius in Ambala, 10.5 degrees Celsius in Narnaul and 11.1 degrees Celsius in Hisar, it stated. The MeT department has forecast, light to moderate rain at most places in Punjab and Haryana on Thursday.
Himachal may see widespread snowfall
Moderate to heavy snowfall may occur across Himachal Pradesh for the next three days, the Met Office said on Wednesday. Residents and tourists have been advised not to venture in the high hills.

The northern parts of the country are in for another cold spell with the weather office predicting "a fairly widespread to widespread" rain or snow over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh from Wednesday till Friday and over Uttarakhand for two days from Thursday.

Cold weather conditions continued to prevail at most places in Punjab and Haryana on Monday, with minimum temperatures settling a few notches below the normal limits, the MeT department said. Narnaul in Haryana was the coldest place in the two states at a low of 5 degrees Celsius. Hisar recorded a minimum of 5.8 degrees Celsius, a Meteorological department official said here. Rohtak (6.8), Sirsa (6.8), Ambala (8.7) and Bhiwani (8.7) also experienced a cold night. In Punjab, piercing chill swept Bathinda, which recorded a low of 5.7 degrees Celsius while Amritsar recorded a low of 7 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Pathankot settled at 8.2 degrees Celsius. Amritsar (7), Adampur (8.2 ), Patiala (8.7) experienced a cold night while Ludhiana registered a low of 10 degrees Celsius, which was within the normal limits. Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, registered a low of 9.8 degrees Celsius, also within the normal limits.
Slight relief from cold wave in Himachal
A sunny Monday brought slight relief to most parts of Himachal Pradesh from the ongoing cold wave conditions as the minimum temperature increased a few notches, the Meteorological Department (MeT) said. However, the Shimla MeT centre has forecast snowfall and rain at some places in mid and high hills while thundershowers in low hills and plains of the state from February 12 to February 15. The minimum temperature in Manali, Kufri, Dalhousie and Shimla was recorded at 0 degree Celsius, 2.1 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees Celsius and 4.1 degrees Celsius respectively, it said. Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the state with the lowest temperature at minus 10.8 degrees Celsius, the Met department said, adding the minimum temperature in Kinnaur's Kalpa was minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.

Mount Abu was the coldest place in Rajasthan with a minimum temperature of 0.4 degrees on Saturday night as cold wave conditions continued in the state, the meteorological department said. Fatehpur in Sikar district was the second coldest as the mercury settled at a low of 0.8 degree Celsius. It was followed by Dabok at 3.4 degrees Celsius, Chittorgarh at 3.5 degrees Celsius, 4.4 degrees Celsius in Churu, 4.6 degrees Celsius in Pilani and 4.7 degrees Celsius in Banasthali, the weather office said on Sunday. The MeT department has predicted the weather to remain dry for the next 24 hours.

Schools to remain closed in Kullu, Shimla due to heavy snowfall
Due to heavy snowfall, the district administrations of Kullu and Shimla on Sunday declared two days holiday for primary and senior secondary schools in the region. According to the authorities, the schools will reopen on February 13.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from February 13.The IMD also forecast heavy rain, snow or thunderstorm accompanied with hailstorm at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.Meanwhile, snow-clearing operations were carried out in Rajouri district and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
