West Bengal's COVID-19 tally rose to 20,08,950 on Thursday as 817 people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. Twenty-six fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 20,938. Kolkata reported the highest number of 135 new cases, followed by 133 in neighbouring North 24 Parganas district. North 24 Parganas district registered five fatalities, while four deaths each were reported in Kolkata and Paschim Bardhaman districts. The number of active cases dipped by 590 and stood at 14,805. As many as 1,381 more people were cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,73,207, while the discharge rate improved to 98.22 per cent. The state has thus far tested over 2.36 crore samples for COVID-19, including 45,495 in the last 24 hours.
West Bengal's Covid-19 tally rose to 20,08,133 on Wednesday after 884 new infections, 148 more than the previous day's count, were registered, the health department said in its bulletin. It said that 28 new fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 20,912. On Tuesday, the state had recorded 736 new cases and 32 more deaths. The positivity rate, which was 1.87 per cent on Tuesday, increased slightly to 1.89 per cent. Since Tuesday, 46,836 samples were tested in West Bengal taking the total number of such clinical examinations to 2,35,97,058. The bulletin said 1,470 patients recovered from the disease taking the discharge rate to 98.19 per cent. So far, 19,71,826 people have been cured of coronavirus in the state. West Bengal on Tuesday reported 736 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 20,07,249, the health department said in its bulletin. Thirty-two more people died of the infection including nine in Paschim Bardhaman, five in the city and four in North 24 Parganas which raised the toll to 20,884, the bulletin said At least 1,559 people recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,70,356 . The discharge rate stood at 98.16 per cent and the fatality rate at 1.04 per cent. The positivity rate slipped from 2.59 per cent on Monday to 1.87 per cent, the bulletin said. Bengal currently has 16,009 active cases 855 less than the previous day. As many as 2,35,50,222 samples have been tested in the state, including 39,347 in the past 24 hours, the bulletin added.
Gainwell Engineering on Monday said it will invest Rs 500 crore to manufacture coal mining equipment, with license from global heavy equipment major Caterpillar, in West Bengal. The company said it entered into a technology licensing agreement with Caterpillar, which will enable it to manufacture equipment to support the growing coal production in India and for the global markets.
