Cyclone Fani to intensify into severe storm

The Cyclone Fani, which has been strengthening in South East Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by this noon. India Meteorology Department said it will further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday morning. It is moving in a north westwards direction at a speed of 21 kilometres per hour.The cyclone was earlier laying centred at 910 kilometres south-east of Chennai and 1090 km from Machilipattinam. Cyclone 'Fani' to intesify into severe cylonic storm in next 24 hrs

Cyclone 'Fani' that has been gaining strength in the south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a very "severe cyclonic storm" in the next 24 hours, the weather department said on Sunday.The conditions of the sea are likely to be very rough along and off Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts till May 3, said Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA).Gale wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 115 kmph is prevailing over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, the OSDMA said.The fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas in these coastal areas.While speaking to ANI, Hyma Rao from Visakhapatnam cyclone warning centre, said: "In all major ports distant warning signal number two has been made, that means ports at Machilipatnam, Krishnapatnam, Nizampatnam, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram and Kakinada.""As far as the forecast is concerned, Fani will recurve, it will not affect south coastal Andhra during next 4-5 days. Three Maha districts sizzle at highest 47.2 degree C; heatwave

The IMD has issued a heat wave warning for North Central Maharashtra and Marathwada regions for Sunday and Monday at a time when Akola, Parbhani and Chandrapur districts in Vidarbha region recorded the highest temperature in the country at 47.2 degree Celsius Saturday. As mercury climbed up, Amravati and Wardha, also in Vidarbha region of east Maharashtra, sizzled at 46 degree Celsius each while Yavatmal, Parbhani, Nanded, Jalgaon and Ahmednagar districts each recorded 45 degree Celsius temperature. Aurangabad, Nanded and Buldana have reported higher than normal temperature in the last some decades, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in a report. Scorching heat in national capital

The national capital reeled under scorching heat on Sunday, with the maximum temperature recorded at 41.2 degrees Celsius, officials said. The minimum temperature settled at 25.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, said a meteorological (MeT) department official. Humidity levels oscillated between 40 and 14 per cent. The MeT office has forecast clear sky for Monday. "The maximum and the minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 42 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius," the weatherman said. The Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, registered a maximum temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday while the minimum was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius.

Heatwave warning for two days in parts of Maharashtra

The IMD has issued a heat wave warning for North Madhya (Central) Maharashtra and Marathwada regions for Sunday and Monday. It also said that Marathwada region would receive thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Nashik, Pune, Ahmednagar and Jalgaon districts would witness a heat wave along with warm night conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in a report released this afternoon. "It would be felt in some isolated pockets. Cyclonic storm 'Fani' to intensify into 'severe cyclonic storm': IMD

Cyclone 'Fani' is very likely to intensify into a "severe cyclonic storm" in the next 12 hours and further soar into a "very severe cyclonic storm" in the next 24 hours, the Cyclone Warning Division of the MeT department said on Sunday. In its 1 pm bulletin, the Cyclone Warning Division said 'Fani' currently lays over 745 kilometres east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 1,050 kilometres southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and 1,230 kilometres south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh). "It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours and into a very severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours," the IMD said. Amid heat wave warning, rains to hit parts of Telangana

In a mixed weather forecast for Telangana, the Met department has issued heatwave warning for two days from Sunday in some parts while predicting moderate rain in isolated places in the state. In a respite from scorching heat with temperature hovering over 40 degree Celsius mark in the past few days, the city experienced cloudy sky Sunday. According to the India Meteorological Department here, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of Telangana Sunday and Monday. It also forecast that light to moderate rain or thunder showers were very likely to occur at isolated places in the state. Heat wave warning in 9 Odisha districts

The meteorological centre here Saturday issued heat wave warning in nine districts of Odisha as sweltering heat pushed the day temperatures above 40 degrees in at least 14 places in the state. The weather warning was issued for three days from Saturday in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada and Boudh districts, the met centre said. The sizzling summer heat pushed the mercury up to 45 degrees at Titlagarh in Bolangir district in the wetsren part of the state during the day making it the hottest place in the state. It was followed by Bolangir town wjhich recorded 43.5 degrees, while it was 43.3 at Talcher, 43.2 at Sonepur and 43 at Jharsuguda, the met centre said. Heat wave in Guj to continue for three days: Met department

Temperatures soared in many parts of Gujarat Saturday and the heat wave will continue over the next three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad touched 43.6 degree Celsius, 2.3 degrees above normal, and was very likely to touch 45 degree Celsius in coming days, local IMD centre said. Temperatures in most parts of the state are likely to rise by 2-3 degrees in the next couple of days, with heat wave conditions likely to prevail in north and south Gujarat as well as Saurashtra-Kutch regions till Monday, the IMD said. Parts of Telangana to experience heat wave for three days

The northern parts of Telangana are likely to experience heat wave conditions for three days beginning Saturday, Met officials said. The temperatures are rising due to the winds blowing from the north westerly and northerly direction, a Met department official told PTI. The highest maximum temperature of 44.7 degrees celsius was recorded during the past 24 hours at Nizamabad, the weather office said in its report. Ramagundam and Adilabad recorded the maximum temperature of 44 degrees during the past 24 hours while Hyderabad witnessed a maximum temperature of 41 degrees, it said. In 2016, more than 300 heat wave-related deaths had been reported in the state.

Depression over Indian Ocean intensifies, likely to become cyclone

A depression over the Indian Ocean and southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified and moved further northwestwards, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Saturday. It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 12 hours and further into a severe cyclonic storm, the IMD said and warned fishermen against venturing into the sea on Sunday. Fishermen advised not to venture into sea due to depression

: Fishermen in Andhra Pradesh have been warned not to venture into the sea from April 27 in view of the depression prevailing in the sea. An official release from The Andhra Pradesh Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Research Center (AWARE) AWARE, a division of Real-Time Governance Society, said deep-sea fishing has to be completely avoided as the sea is predicted to be rough with high tides and high-speed winds. Fishermen who are already in the sea have been advised to return to the shore by April 28. The RTGS started issuing alerts on the prevailing cyclonic storm to fishermen through IVRS calls, RTG CEO Babu Ahamed said.
